The Foundation provides grants to nonprofit organizations and qualifying government entities such as schools and libraries in Big Sky and the Greater Gallatin Valley. Funds are available to support nonprofit programs and capacity building. No loans or grants to individuals will be made.
Scholarship funds may be used for individual capacity development. Scholarship funds may be used to cover conference fees or tuition, travel/lodging costs, materials, or special technologies needed to participate in learning or development opportunities. Please reach out to staff if you have questions about your application and eligible expenses.
Scholarship funds will be awarded to the recipient's organization, not directly to the individual.
A follow up report is required of all scholarship recipients, to include brief learning outcomes and receipts for actual costs covered by funds.

The Darren Johnson Avalanche Education Memorial Fund is committed to supporting patrollers who seek to further their education. This scholarship aims to alleviate the costs associated with continuing education courses. Finalists selected for the scholarship will be required to participate in a brief Zoom interview with the committee to discuss their passion for the industry and how the course will benefit them both professionally and personally. Applications are open for the 2026/2027 season, with awards distributed in fall 2026.

Award: Two $5,000 scholarships will be awarded to high school seniors to help with the costs of post-secondary education.
Candidates: High school seniors attending Lone Peak High School, Bozeman High School, Belgrade High School, Gallatin High School, or Manhattan High School who have applied to a post-secondary education institution.
Criteria: The scholarships are awarded to the two applicants who most closely exemplify Corey’s “never quit” attitude, his passionate support and leadership for causes in which he believed, and his philosophy, put simply: finding good in others, lending a helping hand for those in need, and having the courage to create change. This is not a need-based scholarship. Interested applicants from eligible schools, please reach out to your school counselor. Each eligible school can nominate no more than 3 students for this opportunity.
